Initial Jobless Claims Update: 2/19

Initial Jobless Claims, which measures individuals filing for unemployment benefits for the first time, increased by 13,000 to 861,000…but there were revisions higher the previous week in the amount of 55,000.  Net from what we thought last week Claims got worse by 68,000.   Continuing Claims, or those that continue to receive benefits, decreased by 64,000 to 4.5M.  The Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Claims, which gives individuals benefits which gives individuals benefits who would not usually qualify, and Pandemic Emergency Claims, which extends claims by 13 weeks after regular benefits expire, dropped by 258,000 and 718,000 respectively.
