This week felt like a constant battle between uncertainty and resilience. On one side, we saw continued tension in the Middle East. Peace talks came and went, headlines shifted daily, and the markets worked hard to distinguish real signals from the noise.
The primary concern remains the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route that handles roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply. Reports of commercial vessels being attacked have pushed oil prices higher. This is a key metric to watch, as rising oil prices can pressure inflation, increase transportation costs, and impact everything from the gas pump to general consumer spending.
Housing Market Resilience
Despite the global uncertainty, the markets stayed disciplined. We didn’t see panic; we saw hesitation. Underneath the headlines, the housing market quietly delivered a very strong report:
- Pending home sales came in stronger than expected.
- Mortgage application activity has improved.
- National home prices continue to show modest appreciation.
While the media narrative has spent months focusing on negativity and fear, the actual data shows a resilient market. People are still buying homes, and demand remains steady as buyers continue to adapt to current rates.
Looking Ahead: Fed Leadership
We also heard from Kevin Warsh, the Fed Chair nominee, who discussed a forward-looking approach to monetary policy. The takeaway is simple: future Fed leadership may focus less on reacting to lagging data and more on where the economy is headed.
